Belkin has a long history of offering up WiFi gear like routers
and access points. The company has unveiled a new line of gadgets that
use WiFi, but aren’t for networking. The devices are in the WeMo family and allow you to automate your home using a smartphone app and no new
wires.
There are two parts to the WeMo line right now. The WeMo Home Control
Switch will sell for $49.99 and is a device that plugs into your home
outlet. It has one outlet of its own and will control a lamp or other
device plugged into it.
The other device is the WeMo motion Sensor + Home Control Switch that
will sell for $99.99. This device will turn lamps on and off when you
enter a room or leave the room using motion sensing. Both of the devices
can be controlled by a smartphone app and you can turn them on/off
remotely and set a schedule. The devices will launch this summer.
