It seems like the last thing we need is a new music streaming
service, but despite this, it looks like Microsoft might be giving us
one. CNET says that Microsoft “has discussed creating a service that
would supply tunes to the Xbox as well as an upcoming Windows-based
phone”.
It has also been reported that Microsoft will be relaunching its Zune Pass music service with Xbox Live branding in order to launch a music service very similar to Spotify, so these two rumors seem to corroborate each other. Aside from that the details are scarce, but it will apparently offer video as well as music, and it will allow current Zune Pass subscribers to keep their subscriptions.
The release date is targeted at the holiday season and it also looks
like the subscription service will be given away to new PC buyers to get
users started. Take this all with a huge grain of salt until we hear
from Microsoft itself, but it seems likely that this is true.
